Simple Joys of Matchbox Cars
Their Start
The year was 1953, and the British toy company LESNEY products come with the first so-called Matchbox car. It was then that they saw one of their biggest sales – a model of Queen's Coronation Coach. This led to other start-reduced versions of different vehicles – cars, dump trucks, mixers, and more. It was always important, that meet specific, the requirement that the size – it fits into a matchbox. And so was born the brand. These early models were (naturally) all British vehicles, and quite primitive – no interiors, doors opened, and they were generally solid piece of metal.
Their growth
By the end of 60 years, Matchbox cars are really into their Golden Era. Now there were many more models, and they were still quite articulate – doors that are opened, and so on. That is, they expanded their line includes models did not happen – the issue of long vehicles. Also been added Accessories – petrol / gas pumps, garages, and so on.
Tests for the Protection of Competition
Of course, success breeds imitation. The U.S. company came out with their Mattell Hot Wheels line, and quickly took over the American market. Well, Matchbox was not about to take, that lying down. They responded with the creation of the Superfast line, these new, sleeker cars, and adding additional items. Soon there were Matchbox planes, trains and ships. Their success led to even more new routes – the Battle of Kings (military models), Sea Kings (different ship) Adventure 2000 science fiction line, and two pack series. However, these lines showed less than completely successful, Only two Pack and Sky Busters (airplanes) continued longer.
Death, and re-birth
1970 saw tough times for Matchbox, and other British toy manufacturers. Eventually, he was forced to declare bankruptcy LESNEY in June 1982. Matchbox brand then drifted a bit for some time, moving from company to company until – almost exactly ten years later – Tyco Toys bought in May 1992. Then, in a truly an ironic twist, Mattel Matchbox won in 1997. To say that Matchbox loyal fans / collectors involved would be understatement. After all, Hot Wheels / Matchbox rivalry has been raging for years. Mattel would simply kill the line, revamp it to be like Hot Wheels or remain faithful its roots?
Initially, the remake Mattel Matchbox cars. In 2003, they brought out the Ultra Heroes line, which was a complete disaster! These have been abolished a year later, and the company decided to try another tact. A new team dedicated to maintaining the classic style cars, began producing realistic looking models with a high degree of detail. One big change from the classic Matchbox cars was that these were largely based on American vehicles. Today the border has grown to almost one hundred models, and show no signs of disappearing. Children – both boys and girls – continue benefit from playing with them, and is more than a few adults who also take pleasure in their collection.
